| Dogs have been an important part of Elaine's life for a very long time. Her first two dogs, Pudgy and Cally, were Golden Retriever mixes who also became Elaine's first teachers and peaked her interest in obedience training. A trip to a dog show ultimately convinced
Elaine that the Golden Retriever was the breed for her. After Pudgy and Cally came MacGyver, Nikki, Angus (a mix who adopted Elaine and her husband) and Merlin. Angus has since joined Pudgy and Cally
and are romping in the clouds cheering Elaine on. MacGyver, Nikki and Merlin are pictured above.
Elaine's first experience with two dogs (MacGyver and Nikki) accelerated her interest in canine education and also convinced her that obedience training was the career path she wanted to follow. Observing her two dogs interact revealed distinct personalities. The different tones of barking, the different body language were unique to each dog and varied depending on where they were and what they were doing. In the process May 27, 2009with the instructor and began assisting in classes. Ultimately Elaine replaced the instructor, who could not continue teaching, and began teaching classes at the Animal Medical Center of Itasca. In addition to teaching in Itasca, Elaine also teaches classes in Arlington Heights and Rolling Meadows. Time and location of private classes will be worked out between Elaine and the dog owner. Elaine believes strongly in positive motivation and reward and does not use intimidation or force (hitting) in any form. If Elaine sees anyone in her class using force that person will be immediately dismissed from the class and asked not to return. The old way of "popping and jerking" is never used. Classes are small so each dog receives personal attention from Elaine as she learns its unique personality. Dogs, like people, learn differently. Breed, age, sex, size, personality and the way owners work with their dog all influence how a dog will learn. If there is a question Elaine can not answer she will either find the answer or refer you to someone who can. One thing is certain. Elaine makes teaching your dog fun and rewarding. There are always a lot of laughs and enjoyable times between the dogs and the owners and teacher. Elaine always encourages observers and graduation day is always special for you an your dog. Hopefully you will enjoy your visit to Elaine's site. There is a lot of information here from dog treat recipes to links to animal shelters. You can register for class in three different ways: on-line, via e-mail or by telephone. Elaine will also be happy to answer any questions you have. Please submit them by e-mail. Thank you for stopping by. |
